About Terri
Terri Hilder B.A., BWY Dip., DCT, ITEC.
I started studying Yoga as a teenager, when I was given my first copies of the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita, books that have stayed by my side for over 4 decades. I become "hooked" on the physical practices of Hatha Yoga in 1979 and I have been teaching yoga since 1986. I have studied extensively since attaining the British Wheel of Yoga Teacher's Diploma. Although I do not follow the teachings exclusively of any one Guru, the main influences in my personal development in yoga have been the teachings of B.K.S.Iyengar, Swami Satyanada Saraswati and Dr Swami Gitananda. With the influence of Iyengar I teach Asana with precision. The Teachings of Gitananda have given me a structure for the practice of Pranayama. The teachings of Swami Satyananda have given me an understanding of Prana, Swara and the value of Karma Yoga in personal development.
I teach yoga at all levels, from beginners to advanced, including teacher training and Diploma Course Tutor Training. I believe in teaching students as individuals with different needs. I believe in adapting the practice to suit the individual. I believe in making the practice of yoga relevant to all so that all can reap the benefits.
I am an experienced Diploma Course Tutor for the British Wheel of Yoga and have completed five very successful yoga teacher training courses which have all had excellent feedback from both students and verifiers. I ran the first pilot course leading to the new BWYQ level 4 Diploma in Teaching Yoga Course. It was an outstanding success. I am a member of the Education Committee of the British Wheel of Yoga, holding the post of Course Development Officer.
As well as yoga qualifications I have an honours degree in Biology from York University, qualifications in Physical Therapy, Massage and Anatomy and Physiology (ITEC) and the City and Guilds 4707 teaching adults qualification. I have also studied Touch for Health and Reiki.
My other passion is for the great oudoors.
"a fabulous and inspiring teacher" (Zoe K)
